How it all began

My name is Ty Boyce and I have been in the photography field for the past 15 years. As you can see from my website, I have received numerous awards for my photography ability. I would like to share with you my beginnings, and how I became interested in photography.
As a small boy growing up I was always interested in how things worked and the big picture. Even at a small age, I was fascinated by the beauty of things. How the light hits the earth and illuminates the ground, people, and other objects. I was given my first camera at age 10 and it was a relic. I took pictures of everything. At that point, I just loved taking pictures. I didn’t have the background techniques that I have now. I continued with my photography more as a hobby, and in high school, I found my mentor. This man was a local photographer who owned his own studio and was the school photographer. On picture day he would come and set up the lights, the backdrops and the cameras. I was so intrigued, that I started talking to him. He introduced himself as Jack, and I was positive that he could teach me many aspects of the photography world. I knew I wanted to be his apprentice. Jack hired me to help him in his studio and took me on photo shoots. He taught me so much more than photography. He taught me professionalism, and the art of talking to people and getting to know them in a more personal light which enables me to capture the “real” person and not the “posed” one.
I worked with Jack for many years. It was Jack who always believed in me and encouraged me that I could make a living out of photography. He helped me perfect my “eye” and to capture the beauty of the world. It was Jack that informed my about the Hallmark Institute of Photography. I applied and was accepted into the college. It was this college that took my raw talent and shaped it, so I could become the photographer I am today. There were so many great professors at the college and I learned so much, which enabled me to graduate at the top of my class. I was recognized and awarded the prestigious Hasselblad award. That meant so much to me.
After I graduated I spent some time in Massachusetts,NY,WV as a
sports photographer for a ski resort and white water rafting. I also traveled around to surrounding states doing sports photography. I felt that I needed to do more and wanted to expand my horizons. It was Jack again, who found the ad in a magazine advertising for photographers for one of the biggest theme parks in orlando Florida. I sent my portfolio to this company and was hired as wedding photographer. I have been with that company for the past 11 years .
I am very passionate about my work. I am not like other photographers who do this for the money or for the fact that they are good at it. I feel that it’s my passion. I am always seeing these “pictures” in life, moments I want to capture. I do this because I love making art. Photography should be art that captures those special moments in life. I not only take pictures of people, but I love talking to people and knowing where they come from and try to capture that “realness” that people have. I hope to do this for the rest of my life.
